Different wiring

Eight ways people hear the world.

Some people need the data first. Some need to feel heard before they can listen. Some need room to move. Hard conversations go sideways when we talk the way we hear, not the way they do.

Think of the conversation you’ve been avoiding. Which one are they?

Leaders

  • Strategic Leader

    Visionary · Analytical · Goal-oriented

Plays the long game. Hears logic, not volume.

  • Tactical Leader

    Decisive · Pragmatic · Results-driven

Lives in today’s checklist. Values directness.

Connectors

  • Inspirational Connector

    Charismatic · Enthusiastic · Persuasive

Needs to be heard before they can listen.

  • Supportive Connector

    Empathetic · Nurturing · Collaborative

Guards the harmony. Safety first, then substance.

Planners

  • Structured Planner

    Organized · Reliable · Detail-focused

Trusts facts and process. Bring the evidence.

  • Adaptive Planner

    Flexible · Resourceful · Responsive

Adjusts to whatever the day throws. Needs room to maneuver.

Innovators

  • Conceptual Innovator

    Imaginative · Abstract · Future-focused

Lives in “what if.” Engage the idea first.

  • Practical Innovator

    Hands-on · Experimental · Solution-oriented

Fixes the thing in front of them. Show, don’t tell.

How it works

Intention reads both sides.

It starts with them, not your grievance, which quietly pulls you out of your own head. About three minutes, start to finish.

  1. Choose their type

Pick the one of eight that sounds most like them. Each has a portrait to help you decide.

  2. Name the relationship

Partner, child, parent, friend, family or coworker. The relationship shapes the tone.

  3. Share the challenge

Type it or say it out loud. Get the whole thing off your chest first.

    Private to your account.

  4. Say what you’re hoping for

Name what you want to create, protect or repair. That’s the shift from complaining to planning.

  • Prep-first

Built for the quiet moment before, when a plan can still change the outcome.

  • Built-in empathy

The flow starts with their type, not your grievance.

  • Single-player

They never need the app, an invite, or even to know.

Your guide

From what you’d blurt out to what they can actually hear.

Every guide gives you language to use, a strategy, and guardrails for when it gets hard, tuned to their type, your relationship and what you’re hoping for.

Parent and teen example

What you’re walking in with

“I’m so tired of asking you five times to do one simple chore.”

“Couldn’t I just ask ChatGPT?”

You could, if you write a careful prompt while you’re upset. Intention builds the psychology in, so the structure does the work your flooded brain can’t.

A blank chatbot

  • You do the prompt engineering, at your most reactive moment.
  • It doesn’t know their personality type, so the advice fits everyone and no one.
  • Nothing stops you from drafting a sharper version of the argument you already had.

Intention

  • The structure is built in: their type, your relationship, your intention. No prompt skills needed.
  • Every guide is tuned to how this specific person hears hard things.
  • The flow itself de-escalates you: vent first, then name what you want to create, protect or repair.

Built for the moment before

Where the pause happens.

Work, home, family, friendship. Different rooms, the same moment right before you speak.

  • Partner

    Before the money talk

“Every time we try, it turns into the same fight.”

Intention: Create a plan we both believe in

  • Parent and teen

    Before walking in the door

“It’s the same fight about chores, every single day.”

    Intention: Repair the evening routine

  • Adult family

    Before the holiday call

“How do I tell my mom we’re not coming home this year?”

    Intention: Protect the relationship

  • Friend

    Before the boundary

“I know I need to say something. I just freeze.”

    Intention: Protect my time

  • Coworker

    Before the 1-on-1

“How do I give critical feedback without them taking it personally?”

    Intention: Create a constructive 1-on-1

What you write is personal. Here’s what we can say plainly, straight from our privacy policy.

  • Private to your account

What you write isn’t shown to other users. It’s yours.

  • Never sold, never used for ads

Your conversations aren’t sold and aren’t used for advertising.

  • They’re never contacted

Intention doesn’t contact, notify or profile the person you’re preparing for.

  • Delete anytime

Delete a single guide, or your whole account, whenever you like.

What Intention is, and isn’t.

Intention helps you prepare for the everyday friction of close relationships and work. It isn’t therapy, counseling or crisis support, and its eight types are a way of thinking about communication, not a diagnosis of anyone.

If you’re in danger, or a situation involves abuse, threats or thoughts of self-harm, please reach out to people trained to help, right now:

  • Call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (US)
  • Call 1-800-799-7233, the National Domestic Violence Hotline (US)
  • Call your local emergency number
  • Outside the US, find a free, confidential line at findahelpline.com

And if a pattern keeps repeating or feels heavy, a licensed therapist can help in ways a guide can’t.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Intention therapy?

No. Intention helps you prepare for everyday hard conversations. It isn’t therapy, counseling, or medical or legal advice, and it isn’t built for crises. If you or someone else is in danger, contact your local emergency services. In the US, you can call or text 988.

Does the other person need the app?

No. Intention is single-player. They never need to download anything, join anything, or even know. Your prep is yours.

How do I know which type they are?

Read the eight portraits and pick the one that sounds most like them. It’s your perception, not a verdict, and your guide is built around the choice you make. Meet the eight types.

What kinds of conversations does it help with?

Everyday friction with a partner, your kids, your parents, friends and coworkers: feedback, boundaries, apologies, chores, money, plans. It isn’t designed for situations involving abuse, violence or threats to safety.

Is what I write private?

It’s private to your account, never sold, and never used for advertising. You can delete a guide or your whole account at any time. The privacy policy has the details.
